One significant benefit of securing a good score in AP Calculus BC is that it signals to college admissions committees that you are well-prepared and have a strong aptitude for college-level mathematics. Therefore, students who aim to pursue more rigorous college degrees and programs may find Calculus BC to be a better fit. While both courses cover calculus topics, AP Calculus BC is more advanced and challenging than AP Calculus AB. AP Calculus BC, it's important to consider which one is best suited for your academic goals. Similar to AP Calculus AB, this course has its own exam that tests your understanding of concepts and problem-solving abilities.ĪP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC: Which Should You Choose? The course is challenging but rewarding for students who are up to the task. Make sure to study the additional topics outlined earlier, as they are a significant part of the AP Calculus BC curriculum. Students should also be familiar with the prerequisites needed for AP Calculus AB, as AP Calculus BC covers all the topics in AP Calculus AB. To enroll in AP Calculus BC, students should have completed Algebra II and Geometry courses, and be familiar with trigonometric functions and their properties. The course covers all the topics included in AP Calculus AB, but it also goes beyond that to cover additional concepts such as infinite sequences and series, and parametric equations, polar coordinates, and vector-valued functions. Course ContentĪP Calculus BC is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of calculus and its applications. Below we’ll take a closer look at the wide range of topics you’ll encounter in this AP course. If you already have a strong grasp of the fundamentals covered in this course, you may be interested in the advanced topics explored in AP Calculus BC.ĪP Calculus BC builds on the principles introduced in AP Calculus AB. Students should also have strong problem-solving skills and be comfortable working with functions, equations, and graphs. While there are no official prerequisites for AP Calculus AB, it is recommended that students have a solid strong foundation in topics such as: Students will also learn how to use technology, such as graphing and differentiation calculators, to solve complex problems and visualize mathematical concepts. Analytical Applications of Differentiation.Contextual Applications of Differentiation.Differentiation: Composite, Implicit, and Inverse Functions.Differentiation: Definition and Fundamental Properties. This AP course explores the following topics: Course ContentĪP Calculus AB is equivalent to a calculus course students would take in the first semester of their freshman year of college. It is designed to help students develop a deep understanding of differential and integral calculus and their real-world applications. I also was just elected as Senior Class President for my senior year and think that will consume an enormous amount of my time first semester, but I heard that Calc BC first semester is just review so I might be fine.AP Calculus AB provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles of calculus. So my question is, should I take AP Stats (and most probably get an A in the class, considering it is considered a very easy class at my school) or take AP Calc BC (and probably get a B)? However, I do realize that AP Calc BC looks far better than AP Stats to colleges, and I believe I can get at least a B in BC. I have no interest in majoring in engineering or anything mathematical/science-related in college as I think I’d want to study liberal arts, like humanities, or film. We have a brand-new, first-year Calculus teacher who is awful at teaching (although a genuinely kind person) and I feel as though my Calculus background is not strong at all, I don’t even think I will pass the AP Calc AB Exam next week. I am in AP Calc AB this year and got a B last semester (although I had an A before the final dropped my grade 7% lol) and am most likely getting an A this semester. I am currently a junior and I’m unsure if I should take AP Calc BC or AP Stats my senior year.
